For as long as I can remember a stylist's favorite line when they did my hair was "You have a head full of hair!" This seems like a generic statement, but when my mom abruptly stopped doing my hair and I was left to struggle on my own, I came to understand their shock and frustration when they uttered this phrase. I truly did have a head full of hair. Thick hair! It covered my head, I literally had to have a billion hair follicles on my head. This blessing and curse was why I was often overcharged at any salon I have ever went to. Remember I mentioned my mom just stopped doing my hair when I hit middle school, well this and the fact I was often overcharged are the reasons I had to start being creative and boss up when it came to my hair. Most times I do my hair, but the key to maintaining healthy natural hair, are protective styles. Protective styling usually lasts me a good 3 months, so I don't mind paying a little extra. However I had been following this extremely talented braider and I had been recommending her to friends for over a year without even booking an appointment. I had grown attached to the African Braiders in a plaza up the street from my house. Their lack of customer service and increase in price, had however turned me off. So I felt that my next protective style should be installed by this braider I had bragged about but never utilized. I took a leap and booked an appointment with Kinah. You can find all her braiding and makeup greatness on her Instagram page @kouturebeauty!
I saw a picture on her page where she had done a style coined "Jumbo Box Braids". I loved, Loved, LOVED them. Y'all know I'm impulsive, so I had to have them! Essentially they are box braids, just in jumbo size-duh! (I still felt I had to clarify.) She told me to come washed and blow dried. Remember again when I said I had a head full of hair. Well that head prevented me from blow drying my hair. The comb attachment kept popping off and there was no way I could blow dry my hair. So I sectioned it off into four sections and combed out each section. I then braided each section. I had 4 braids and looked like I was 4- My how grand! This was all done the night before. My appointment was at 8 in the morning. The next morning I showed up and Kinah was so sweet! She had the best personality! She blow dried my hair, even though I know it was a horrible task. This was the end result:

Waayyy too much hair to handle! The style was incredibly less money than the African Braiders had ever charged me! I loved this hair style tremendously! Due to the size, these braids did not last 3 months. They lasted, I'd say a good 4-6 weeks. I can't remember when I specifically took them out, but I loved them none the less! You can see more pics of the style below! I recommend this style for the remainder of the summer, its super fun and cute and can be worn in various styles just as regular sized box braids can!
